DRANESVILLE TAVERN

Dranesville Tavern on Leesburg Pike was first constructed in 1823 with a substantial renovation in the 1850s leading to its Greek Revival appearance today. Fairfax County acquired the property in 1968, and it is now managed by the Park Authority (FCPA). FCPA runs a Resident Curator Program which is an innovative preservation tool that encourages the adaptive reuse of historic properties by stewards who maintain the buildings in exchange for rent-free use of the property. My partner and I were selected as the first ever resident curators for Dranesville Tavern earlier this year and we plan to adaptively reuse the property as a primary residence, while also providing workshops for the public about preservation and art. These three pieces show the current appearance of the tavern including material details for the exterior and the interior of the building. I created the images by first creating a sketch using pen, then building color and shadow with watercolors, and finally overdrawing with pen and ink to create depth.
