A Friendly Game

I started my game around 9 on a Saturday morning or maybe it was noon the following Wednesday.
The time really doesn’t matter.

To play chess is sometimes to sit or sometimes to chat and hear about what you missed yesterday.

I see a neighbor, I see a stranger, I play, I sit, I talk a little.
I am a casual observer, no ordinary loiterer.

This spot is my spot, in the Park, on my seat.
I bring my own pieces and every day is the same, but different.
Could best or be bested, but it’s fine - we’re all just here for a friendly game.

This is my spot and I intend to stay here and play for a while.
Feeling the seat beneath me, alive to the quiet susurrus of leaves and voices vibrating through me.

“I belong here.”
This is my thought inside this moment, in this Park, on this seat.
I intend to stay.
