PEOPLE’S PARK MYRIORAMA DECK

This myriorama depicts aspects of a place sometimes narrowly identified as Lafayette Park, but really best known as the People’s Park. This is a landscape that demands a decentralized history, guided by empathy, subjectivity, and experience-based description. These are not the stories that flow from the top down. These are the stories that flow through all of us, narratives that defy suppression, even as the most powerful gatekeepers of the White House seek to dam their passage. We know these stories even if we are hearing them for the first time. They are an echoic memory, resonating through our bones, the recognition startling us. We may not have lived each of these stories, but our own nestle in their outlines, we feel the wake of their disruption. Seeing that our own joy, identity, and oppression fit like puzzle pieces in and around another person’s lived experience is a welcome relief. This deck tells our story, the People’s History, through the myriad pieces that make up our Park. The cards can be rearranged, subtracted, and added. However they are configured, they tell a true story, they proclaim our history.
